Cork City 6 Athlone Town 1:CORK CITY are safely in the hat for the third round thanks to a pair of hat-tricks from Vinny Sullivan and Tadhg Purcell at Turner's Cross last night.

Athlone were given the perfect start when Val Feeney’s corner was met by a powerful header from Brian McCarthy at the back post and they were very much the better side for the opening half hour. But Cork turned the tide in four fantastic minutes.

Sullivan struck home after a Gearóid Morrissey corner on 34 minutes, while 90 seconds later Morrissey assisted Purcell, who finished neatly to the roof of the net.

Sullivan notched his second on 38 minutes with a magnificent strike and he sealed his hat-trick after 56 minutes when Daryl Horgan brushed off David Brooks and played the in-form striker in.
