Lennon withdraws from England friendly

Soccer: Aaron Lennon has returned to Tottenham with a minor hamstring complaint

Soccer:Aaron Lennon has returned to Tottenham with a minor hamstring complaint. The winger had been pencilled in for a starting slot in England's friendly with Ghana at Wembley tomorrow night.

However, Lennon felt some discomfort after today’s training session and rather than take any risks, Fabio Capello has allowed him to return to Spurs. It is not anticipated Lennon will have to miss Tottenham’s Premier League clash with Wigan at the DW Stadium on Saturday.

However, after releasing five senior players yesterday, Capello was only being consistent in his handling of Lennon, whose side tackle Real Madrid in the Champions League a week tomorrow.

The English FA have confirmed there will be no replacement called into the Three Lions squad. It leaves 19 players from Capello’s original 26-man party and heightens the chances of Wolves winger Matt Jarvis making his international debut tomorrow night.
