After becoming the new Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane has capped a good week by signing a four-year deal with his London club Spurs.
Keane, who has played an integral role in Spurs’ push for European qualification this season, was delighted to have finally put pen to paper.
"It is something that has been going on for a while, I am just happy it is now signed and I can look forward to a good future with Tottenham," said Keane.
The former Coventry and Inter Milan forward had been expected to leave last summer after finding opportunities limited, but boss Martin Jol has used him in attack alongside Mido regularly this season at the expense of England striker Jermain Defoe.
The Dubliner celebrated becoming Ireland skipper with a goal in his country's 3-0 friendly win over World Cup-bound Sweden at Lansdowne Road on Wednesday.
Across London evergreen Teddy Sheringham still has the desire to play at the top level and today the 39-year-old signed a new one-year deal with West Ham.
The former England striker, who was a target for Spurs during the January transfer window, is now set for a third season at Upton Park. Sheringham, who was a free transfer signing in July 2004, has scored 26 goals in 53 league and cup appearances.
Hammers boss Alan Pardew told the club's website www.whufc.com: "I'm absolutely delighted that we have signed Teddy up for another year. It's important for our young players that we have good senior professionals at the club, and Teddy has always set the right example.
"More importantly, we have also secured his playing ability for another season. Teddy has shown this season that he is still a top Premiership striker and, given his superb fitness levels and dedication to the game, I have no doubt that he will be an important member of the team next year."
