Home ownership now feels out of reach for the majority of young people in Ireland under the age of 35, with most now considering long-term renting or social housing over buying, according to new research.

PTSB’s annual Reflecting Ireland Housing and Homeownership report found 52 per cent of under 35s do not believe they will ever be in a position to buy a home in Ireland.

Of that cohort, 61 per cent say they are considering social housing and 55 per cent are looking at long-term renting.

We would like to hear the view from readers aged under 35 on this subject. Have you lost hope in the possibility of buying a home in Ireland?

What do you see as your most likely housing situation in the coming years; and how has the lack of affordable house impacted your plans?

Are social housing and long-term renting options you are considering, or do you have other plans?

Or perhaps, against all odds, you have already made it onto the property ladder and recently become a homeowner? How challenging was this, and did you receive help from family?
