THE Irish Universities, though under strength, overpowered the Scottish Universities with this clinical performance at College Park. Ironically, the visitors' XV contained six Irish players and remarkably only two Scotsmen.
The home side led 24-0 at the interval through two tries by right wing John Kelly and one by Richard Heaslip in addition to three penalties by Colm Morgan.
Three second half penalties by Scottish out half Neil Patterson only served to trigger the Irish back into action with tries from Brian Scally and Greg McConkey plus three Morgan penalties.
