Former All Blacks captain Mike Brewer and former British rugby league international Graham Steadman joined Scotland boss Frank Hadden's coaching staff today. Brewer joins as the new forwards coach, while Steadman takes up the role as defence coach.

Steadman has transferred his skills to union and spent three years as Ireland's defence coach until being replaced earlier this year by Les Kiss.

Brewer, 43, succeeds George Graham who lost his job as forwards coach shortly after the RBS 6 Nations Championship, in which Scotland finished second bottom.

Brewer remarked: "I'm looking forward to working with Frank and the other coaches.

"Scotland have a young team, with a great work ethic and players who are very keen to learn.

"I think they have the potential to develop into a really good international side in the next three to four years."

Steadman, 46, takes over from Alan Tait, who is now on the Newcastle Falcons staff.

Head coach Hadden said: "To secure the services of the ex-All Blacks captain Mike Brewer is a boost. He is now a very experienced coach having worked in club rugby in Ireland, England and Italy before becoming forwards coach for Leinster.

"Graham Steadman is among the most experienced defence coaches in the world  having now spent five years in that position in rugby union with firstly Munster and then Ireland.

"That followed his 21-year-career as an international player and coach in rugby league."
