Rugby:Dr. Eanna Falvey has been named as the new team doctor for the Ireland rugby team and will be supported in his role by respective Leinster and Ulster doctors, Jim McShane and Michael Webb, at certain times during the international season.

Falvey was Munster team doctor between 2003 and 2007, during which time he also worked in hurling, Gaelic football, boxing and athletics.

The former Irish amateur boxer is no stranger to the IRFU set up for he was also the team doctor to the Ireland under-21 teams in 2005 and 2006, the Churchill Cup in 2008 plus acted as team doctor for the Ireland pre-season camps to Spala in Poland.

"Dr. Falvey is an excellent appointment as our new national team doctor,” said Dr. Conor McCarthy, IRFU Medical Director. “He has worked at all levels of the game, has personal experience in elite sport and has a superb background and training in sports medicine.

“This position is an important part of the national management team, Dr. Falvey has all the skills to bring this position to the highest level."

Falvey replaced Dr Gary O’Driscoll who left to take up a his role with Arsenal football club in London.
