Rugby:Connacht have completed the signing of New Zealander George Naoupu who will be available for the westerners Challenge Cup double-header against Worcester but will not arrive in time for Sunday's Magners League game away to Cardiff.
The 26-year-old signed from Kiwi side Highlanders with the versatile forward joining Michael Bradley’s squad until the end of the season.
Naoupu previously lined-out with the New Zealand sevens and U-21s plus played Super 14 rugby with the Highlanders this season. He will now join former team mate Niva Ta’auso at the Sportsground.
Connacht currently top Pool 2 of the Challenge Cup after wins against Olympus Madrid and Montpellier. They must finish top of the Pool to advance to the quarter-finals and Naoupu will be a welcome addition ahead of the Worcester games.
They take on the English side on Saturday, December 12th before the return game at the Sportsground the following Friday (18th).
The Magners League doesn’t make for such good reading as the province is bottom of the table with just two wins from seven ahead this weekend’s trip to the Welsh capital.
