Ulster prop Simon Best has been ruled out of Ireland's tour of New Zealand and Australia after suffering a broken ankle.

Best sustained the injury during the 12-12 draw in Llanelli last night, a result that moved Mark McCall's side within touching distance of the Celtic League title, and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

"This is a major blow to us and to Simon, particularly with the Ireland tour coming up," McCall said. "He has had a wonderful season and has led from the front on the field, as well as being inspirational off the field."

The 28-year-old, who has won 12 Ireland caps, will also miss next Friday night's final Celtic League clash against the Ospreys. A win will guarantee Ulster the title but Leinster, two points behind in the table, have not given up the ghost and will be aiming for full points in Edinburgh.
