THE most exciting moments of yesterday's series of matches in the Dublin St Vincent de Paul football tournament happened off the pitch during the St Oliver Plunketts-St Mary's clash at Martin Savage Park.

The players on the field presented no problem for referee Harry Lambe but stone-throwing vandals on the nearby railway line did.

Lambe could not take any more of the stone-throwing and in the interests of safety stopped the match to chase the attackers down the railway line. The match finished with the locals in front by 2-8, 1-7
