Golf:World number one Rory McIlroy kept alive his chances of wrapping up the European Tour money title at the Singapore Open despite the constant weather delays that will see him have to play 27 holes on the final day.

A top three finish would secure the money crown for the Northern Ireland golfer and when darkness ended play in the third round just before 7pm he was four under through the front nine and in a tie for 13th spot.

Just like the weather, McIlroy was again unpredictable, making an eagle and two birdies, but also carding his second double bogey of the week, this time at the par-four sixth.

“I played well when we got back out there, got off to a good start then unfortunately made a mistake on the sixth but got one straight back on the seventh,” said McIlroy.

“So two under through nine was a pretty decent effort, but I probably need a few more birdies tomorrow morning to get myself within a few shots of the lead going into the fourth round.”

That lead belongs to Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn, who is nine under and facing 33 holes on Sunday. He holds a one-shot lead over England’s Chris Wood who picked up one stroke with a birdie on the second.

South African George Coetzee was alone in third on seven under and Italian Francesco Molinari shared fourth a shot further back with Thailand’s Chapchai Nirat.

Michael Hoey endured a disastrous start to his third round, making back-to-back double bogeys on the third and fourth hole to slip back to level par before play was abandoned for the day.
