Andy Mills of Liverpool led In a breakaway group of five at the end of the final stage of 70 miles but McCann was in the main pack, with Donnelly and McMahon just 14 seconds behind, to take the overall honours.

The stage went through Derrygonnelly, the White Caves climb and Garrison, into Co Leitrim to take in Rossinver and Kinlough. Then it was on to Bundoran, Ballyshannon and Belleek with the finish back in Enniskillen.

Denis Easton and Pat Moriarty were to the fore on the climbs to take first and second places in the king of the mountains competition but with eight miles to go, the decisive break went clear.
