Five players received suspensions at last night's meeting of the Leinster Council of the GAA in Portlaoise when the referee's report of the Leinster club football final at Navan was heard. Banned for two months were Charlie Redmond of Erin's Isle as well as Denis O'Connell and Adrian Behan of Clane while JJ O'Keeffe (Erin's Isle) was suspended for four weeks. The biggest suspension was imposed on a substitute on the Erin's Isle side, Brian Wheatley, who received a six-month ban.

A player who was sent off in the game in error, Keith McLoughlin, was exonerated completely. Two other players, Keith Fagan, of Erin's Isle, and Michael McMenamin, of Clane, were both summoned to the next meeting of the council in the New Year.

Both clubs must forfeit expenses which they would be entitled to from the council.
