DUDLEY HART kept his renowned temper under control as he compiled a bogey free final round to win the rain shortened Canadian Open by one stroke yesterday.
Hart made just two birdies, but he scrambled well to card a closing two under par 70 in a blustery breeze at Glen Abbey for his first tour victory.
He sank his winning putt from three feet at the par five 18th to edge out fellow American David Duval. Hart finished at 14 under 202 in the event shortened to 54 holes because of Saturday's rain.
Duval's 68 equalled the day's lowest round, but a birdie at the last was not enough and he finished runner up for the fifth time on the PGA Tour, where he still has not won.
Tour rookie Scott Dunlap, who started the final round with a three shot lead, faded with a 76 to tie for third, three shots off the pace.
"I'm really proud of myself because I have been a little volatile in the past," said Hart (28). "I'm the baby volcano. I've always had a temper. I've worked really hard on it (and) I did a good job today."
. Trish Johnson ended three years without a victory yesterday when she walked away with the Marks and Spencer European Open at Hanbury Manor. A runner up three times in her four previous tournaments in Europe, Johnson finished with a 70 for a 14 under par total of 274.
