Men's Hockey: Glenanne's 4-2 win over Pembroke yesterday in Glenanne Park, with Stephen Butler once again on the scoring trail, gives the Tallaght team an edge in the Leinster Senior League. Butler, the Glenanne and Ireland midfielder, knocked in the fourth goal following strikes from John Goulding, Brendan Parsons and Paul Fitzpatrick.

The prolific Alan Sothern and Justin Sherriff were on the mark for Pembroke, who always trailed in the match.

Glenanne also relied on some sharp net-minding from Ian Clarke, especially during a 20-minute spell in the second half, when the visitors earned a series of set-pieces.

Three Rock Rovers followed their 8-3 win over Trinity on Saturday with a 3-2 defeat of Avoca in their Mills Cup clash in Blackrock. Rovers knocked out the division two side at Newpark but not without some scares from the home side.

In Munster, the game of the weekend, and indeed one of the two games that will probably decide the league, was strangely one-sided with Harlequins beating Cork C of I 5-1.

That leaves Harlequins in the driving seat for the return fixture at Garyduff, assuming that both sides win their remaining matches against all the other clubs.
