It seems nothing can stop the growth of the Community Games

It seems nothing can stop the growth of the Community Games. This year marks the 33rd anniversary of the games in Dublin, and this week Cablelink agreed to extend their 12-year sponsorship of all 90 Community Games areas in the county.

In July last year, Cablelink was bought by ntl, the Anglo-American telecommunications company which plans to bring more digital TV and high-speed internet services into Irish households. But the Community Games sponsorship was deemed way too important to drop.

The list of sporting figures who first found their love of sport in the Community Games remains impressive. For example, Niall Quinn, winner of the Community Games long puck back in 1975, showed up at this week's announcement.
