RICHARD Dunwoody was confident of being fit to partner former Champion Hurdler Alderbrook at Newcastle today despite getting kicked in a fall at Newbury yesterday.
The jockey gave up his remaining ride and limped off the course to undergo treatment on the left leg that was injured when Edelweiss du Moulin came down in the Brimpton Handicap Hurdle.
Dunwoody hit the ground when the Champion Hurdle contender tipped up at the third last. He fell clear of the horse but was struck on the leg by the following Master Tribe.
As a result he was given a red entry in his medical book and must pass the racecourse doctor before he can ride at Newcastle where he is due to team up with Alderbrook in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle.
The jockey reported: "I got kicked on the left leg but I'm confident of riding tomorrow."
Dunwoody had failed to make the frame on all his three mounts and was 10 lengths off the lead when Edelweiss du Moulin, who has been backed for next year's Champion Hurdle, crashed out in the race won by Mister Morose.
There were further casualties in the Jacky Upton Handicap Chase which claimed hot favourite Major Summit five out while the next claimed Strong Medicine and Go Universal who brought down stablemate River Bounty.
Golden Spinner, a half brother to Grand National runner up The Tsarevich, beat the remaining two finishers Around The Horn and Well Briefed and could be Aintree bound himself.
An unlucky run, ended in impressive style when Yahmi coasted to an 11 lengths victory in the Sonning Novices' Hurdle.
