Cork make two changes for NFL Division One showdown with Kerry

Cork manager Conor Counihan has made two enforced changes to his team for Sunday’s National Football League Division One encounter with provincial rivals Kerry in Tralee: the unfortunate injury to Colm O’Neill, diagnosed with a long-term knee cruciate ligament injury, has cleared the way for Daniel Goulding to make a first start of the campaign, while Eoin O’Mahony is named at full back in place of dual player Eoin Cadogan.

Cadogan suffered a recurrence of an ankle injury in last Saturday’s win over All-Ireland champions Donegal. O’Neill and Cadogan have joined a growing injury list which includes Donnacha O’Connor, Ciarán Sheehan and Patrick Kelly.

Kerry’s Colm Cooper is in line to make his first start of the league campaign after rejoining the panel this week. The seven-times All-Star had been unavailable due to club commitments with Dr Crokes. Aidan O’Mahony is a doubt for the game after sustaining an ankle injury in the win over Down.

Tyrone – who ended Dublin’s unbeaten record – have made three changes for the trip to Newbridge to face Kildare on Sunday, with Ryan McKenna drafted back into defence and Patrick McNeice and Conor McAliskey, both introduced as substitutes against Dublin, starting in attack.

McKenna replaces Justin McMahon in the half-back line, with McNiece taking Ciarán McGinley’s place at wing forward and McAliskey replacing Martin Penrose.

Dublin are to name their side today for the encounter with Down at Croke Park tomorrow evening, with Bernard Brogan expected to return after being rested last weekend. Ciarán Kilkenny has been ruled out for four to six weeks after sustaining a knee injury early on in the defeat to Tyrone. Manager Jim Gavin can also call upon the Ballymun Kickhams contingent for the first time following their defeat to St Brigid’s of Roscommon in the All-Ireland decider.

Cork hurling manager Jimmy Barry Murphy has kept an unchanged side from the one that lost to Clare for the visit to Galway at Pearse Park. Jamie Coughlan and Stephen McDonnell remained unavailable due to injuries.
