Eircom League commissioner Roy Dooney yesterday welcomed a new agreement with RT╔ that promises improved coverage of domestic football on national television from the start of the new year.

Although the league will not get a programme of its own, the station has given a firm commitment towards the inclusion of much broader coverage of games in a new Sunday Sport programme which will be aired at 7.30 p.m.

"I am happy that a regular and consistent slot at prime time on Sunday evenings will greatly benefit the marketing and presentation of the league," said Dooney.

Meanwhile, RT╔ will air a highlights programme of the second round of the FAI Cup on Sunday at 11 p.m. while it has also been confirmed that Cork City's forthcoming league clash with Derry will be covered live.
