Good Counsel, New Ross 1-13 Patrician, Newbridge 1-11:This fine tie at Jim Morris Park in Ballon was decided in the fifth minute of the second half of extra-time when Good Counsel substitute Ger Aylward scored the Wexford side's goal to put them 1-12 to 1-11 in front.
Patrician had looked set for victory when they dominated the first half in extra-time and a well taken goal from right full forward five minutes in saw them go 1-11 to 0-10 in front. But that goal proved to be the Kildare side's last score.
Aylward could have sealed Counsel's victory in the 56th minute when, with Patrician clinging to a 0-10 to 0-9 lead, he was clean through on goal but his fine effort was brilliantly saved by Patrician goalkeeper Eamon Callaghan.
Counsel's Emmett Kent did produced a fine levelling point from play in the 58th minute to send the teams into extra time on a score of 0-10 each.
