A clandestine Christmas market adventure awaits the fortunate few who gain entry

A gin experience like no other is coming to Dublin, and you can be one of the lucky attendees.

The cult gin, Monkey 47 will bring its exclusive Wunderbar Christmas Market to a secret venue in Dublin city centre this month (for one weekend only), and the event will be hosted by German mixologist of the year 2018, Jan Nicolas Jehli

Craft gin Monkey 47 was the brainchild of the enigmatic character of Montgomery “Monty” Collins, who had a peripatetic childhood as the son of a diplomat in East Asia, followed by a military career among the ruins of Berlin. Monty settled in his adopted home in the Black Forest in Germany late in life, taking over the Wild Monkey guesthouse. His life supplies the autobiographical background for a closely-guarded recipe that represents an audacious combination of native Black Forest herbs and berries, as well as exotic Asian botanicals.

The gin – which takes its name for these 47 different fresh botanicals that give it its unique taste as well as its 47% ABV – was one of the first to kickstart the craft gin movement. An outlier in terms of exclusivity and eccentricity, Monkey 47 has garnered critical acclaim all over the globe for daring to be different.

Those of us that dare to be different will be clamouring to attend the one-of-its-kind event at the end of November, as Monkey 47 brings you on a clandestine Christmas adventure. A wholly immersive experience, unlike any other Christmas market event, awaits the fortunate few who gain entry to this hidden wonderland.

The Wunderbar Christmas Market pop-up will welcome guests across one weekend only, offering you the chance to experience the magic, madness and mayhem of Monkey 47 in a specially recreated Black Forest setting.

What’s in store for the lucky ticketholders? You will be invited to meet a special Black Market guide in a location adjacent to the secret market. They will then lead you to the venue, where you will only gain entrance by using a secret password.

Once inside, you and your fellow attendees will proceed through a forest walkway, before being invited to sample and enjoy an array of complex flavours transported directly from the Black Forest by a team of underground experts.

There are whispers that guests may be required to forage for elusive ingredients in the dense Black Forest thicket, before watching an expert world-leading mixologist make Monkey 47-infused cocktails with the haul.
