Easy design ideas for every room in the house

There is oodles of inspiration from some of Ireland’s top talents, all under one roof, at the upcoming Permanent TSB Ideal Home Show

The Permanent TSB Ideal Home Show showcases of some of Ireland’s top design talent and interior ideas all under one roof. It allows the time poor but house proud an opportunity to see in person exciting interior design talents as well as look and touch fashion-forward paint, furniture and fit-outs for your home.

Running from Friday, October 21st to Sunday, October 23rd at the RDS Simmonscourt, D4, this year’s big draw takes you to the heart of the home as chef Neven Maguire rustles up some sizzling sensations in the kitchen at the Dunnes Stores Simply Better Chefs Live Theatre.

The Cavan man’s Cook range for the chain store will take centre stage at his chef’s kitchen. The father-of-two’s relaxed approach has turned cooking tasty meals for your family faff-free. Maguire is a fan of the less-is-more approach and is an advocate of one-pot wonders. His range includes hard-working utensils and cookware that stands up to scrutiny. The garlic crusher is one of his hero products, while his skillets and colourful cast-iron pots will allow you one-pot midweek meals that cut down on the washing up.

Maguire is also mindful of rising energy bills and advocates batch cooking when the oven is on, cooking several meals at once to maximise your energy usage. While he works on both gas and induction several hobs, he favours the latter for its ease of cleaning and likes it set on an island, in the middle of the room where you can engage with your family or friends rather than on a wall counter where your back is to them. He also favours a below-counter extractor. “Aesthetically it looks slicker, and it also takes a lot of noise out of the kitchen,” he says.

But trying to imagine how the colours on cards will look like on your walls at home can be difficult, so a visit to fashion-forward firm Dulux Heritage Interior Design Hub will demonstrate what the colours look like in real life when the paint has dried.

The company is launching a brand-new collection of luxury paints called Dulux Heritage, which offer deeper pigmentation and coverage to add real depth of character to surfaces. This is illustrated by room sets designed by top decor talent, including interior designer Elaine Verdon of Leo and Cici Interiors. She’s not afraid of strong colour and also offers a colour consultancy service that includes home visits to suggest colours that will suit both your style and the room in question. It’s a clever way to deliver a very polished result.

Other colour consultants within this Dulux Interiors area includes the paint company’s own Jane Witter; Karina Heaslip, the stylist on RTE’s Room to Improve; and Philippa Buckley of Studio 44.
