FROM THE ARCHIVES:The daily Crime Watch column in 1985 listed the nightly events in Dublin that passed through Garda radio control as public concern about crime, especially housebreaking and joyriding, reached a pitch.

10.08PM. Taxi driver in trouble in Santry. Alarm at shop on Tyrconnel Road, Inchicore.

10.12pm. Burned-out car found at Mill Lane.

10.15pm. Street footballers causing annoyance at Lorcan Grove, Santry. Purple Renault 16 taken from Ballybrack. Silver coloured Opel being taken from Thomond Road, Ballyfermot.

10.26pm. Alarm at house in The Rise, Mount Merrion. Stolen Porsche seen in Sheriff Street.

10.30pm. Black Audi, probably stolen, speeding along Crumlin Road. Stolen car “doing handbrake turns” at housing estate in Lucan.

10.40pm. Stolen Porsche spotted speeding through Fairview towards city centre. Intruders spotted at rear of house on South Circular Road.

10.44pm. Six youths, one with a dog, throwing stones at cars and houses near Harold’s Cross bridge. Alarm at Kilkenny Design Centre, Nassau Street.

10.48pm. Ambulance required urgently at Montague Place for woman who has been mugged.

10.51pm. Skinhead trying to steal car at Parnell Square.

10.55pm. Mini car stolen from Jamestown Road, Inchicore. Skinhead spotted at other cars in O’Connell Street. Ford Granada located in Ballsbridge has been on stolen list since March 8th.

11.09pm. Blue Toyota tried to run down garda in Ranelagh. Garda has one of the occupants held but the other three have got away in the car and are now heading towards Milltown.

11.11pm. Trouble at pub in Ballymun.

11.14pm. Housebreakers at cottages in Clondalkin village.

11.15pm. Crew of 65 bus in trouble on Templeogue Road.

11.21pm. Blue Datsun crashed and abandoned at The Glade, Rathfarnham.

11.25pm. Alert for three cars on Northern Ireland stolen list.

11.26pm. Report of body seen tarred and feathered on or near Killiney Beach.

11.30pm. Car “flying around” at Dolphin House, Dolphin’s Barn.

11.31pm. Intruders at factory site, Kylemore Road, Ballyfermot.

11.34pm. Men interfering with cars at Charleville Road, Rathmines.

11.39pm. Housebreakers spotted at Ballybrack.

11.40pm. Intruders spotted at rear of house on Howth Road.

11.42pm. Skinhead is back at Parnell Square trying to get into mini car.

11.43pm. Alarm at jeweller’s shop in Capel Street.

11.47pm. Search of Killiney Beach carried out. Nobody found.

11.48pm. Car burned out at Seafield Road, Clontarf. Not stolen.

11.56pm. Ford Escort car being driven suspiciously at Newlands Cross. Extra units requested for stolen cars being driven between Goatstown and Blackrock.

11.58pm. Honda 125cc motorcycle stolen from Rathfarnham area.
