Sir, - We are all disgusted at the brutal murder of Veronica Guerin and are calling on our politicians and Gardai to take immediate action but there are others who are also responsible and who must act.
Veronica died because of our antiquated legal system and its failure to deal with these people who are selling drugs and commissioning such murders. However, Veronica died also because there is a demand and market for the drugs that make these drugs barons so wealthy and thus enable them to live outside the law. We all think of drug users as the down and outs around our city and never think of them as our own children and friends. Do enough parents know where their children are and that their child's pocket money is paying, indirectly through the purchase of ecstasy etc, for such murders as that of Veronica Guerin. Maybe all parents and drug users should look in the mirror and ask did they play a part in Wednesday's murder and what are they going to do now? Yours, etc,
