Sir, - I refer to Sean Cronin's "Washington Letter" of December 28th. He writes: "There was a war and he [FDR] ran for a third term, a solution constitutionally denied his successors". FDR also ran for a fourth term during the aforementioned war, but not, all his successors were constitutionally denied a third term.
The 22nd Amendment of the US Constitution states: "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, but this article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this article was proposed by Congress.
The amendment was proposed on March 24th, 1947 and the person holding the office" at that time was Harry S. Truman.
Yours, etc.,
