Too cheap alcohol

Sir,– On Reeling in the Years, RTÉ’s lookback programme this week, we saw Maurice Pratt in the early 1980s extolling the great value to be had in getting three cans of his yellow pack lager for £1.99 or about a fiver in today’s euros. I see supermarkets today offering the equivalent for €2.40.

Any wonder we have a binge drinking problem?

– Yours, etc,

JOHN K ROGERS,

Rathowen,

Westmeath.
