The wrong Mountjoy

Madam, - Loretto O'Connell (February 3rd) is misinformed

Madam, - Loretto O'Connell (February 3rd) is misinformed. Mountjoy Square in Dublin was not named for the English commander at Kinsale. It was not developed until around two centuries later. It was named for Luke Gardiner, Lord Mountjoy, whose family developed that area of Dublin, adding greatly to the elegance of the city.

For their contribution to its dignity, it would be ungrateful of Dublin not to preserve their names. - Yours, etc,
