Sir, - The campaign of calumny against Ms McAleece is based on documents stolen by subversives, then publicised and commented on without regard to the consequences for the peace process in Ireland and hence for citizens' lives, or for the credibility of the State. The democratic process is being perverted to serve an ideological agenda.
Yet we still await that ringing denunciation from the other candidates clearly separating themselves from these deviations, and which alone can restore the legitimacy of the present democratic exercise. Should one of them be elected by exploiting this crime or its consequences, that individual will occupy a diminished office. - Yours, etc.,
