Sir, – Although I have very little Irish indeed, I take enormous pleasure in lingering over the Irish language articles in The Irish Times (Bileog, edited by Pól Ó Muirí, Wednesdays). I may only understand a few words, but I spend as much time on that section as I do on any other part of the paper. The page is a daily reminder of who I am at my core.
Growing up in the north of Ireland where the language was positively discouraged, many of us emerged from school with little grasp of it. However, I, like many of my peers, take great pride in the continuation of our language. I am very grateful to Pol Ó Muirí and to The Irish Times for continuing to champion our language, and by extension our culture. Thank you. – Yours, etc,
DAVID ENRIGHT,
Bricket Wood,
St Albans, England.
