Sir, The Irish Charities Tax Reform Group, which represents the interests of over 20 leading Irish charities, is calling on all the parties in government to introduce tax relief on corporate donations to charities, as an amendment to the present Finance Bill.

A detailed, professionally prepared submission on this matter was presented to the Department of Finance in 1996. This submission concluded that this relief could be introduced without a major cost to the Exchequer. Introducing tax relief on corporate donations could result in up to £11 million being donated annually by companies to charities and this money would be used to assist the many Irish people who receive support from Irish charities.

At a time of economic boom surely the Government can respond to those with needs in our society in this way. Yours, etc.,

Chairperson, Irish Charities Tax Reform Group, Northumberland Road, Dublin 4, Chief Executive
