Starting school

Sir, – All the talk this week about children starting school reminded me of my granddaughter’s first day several years ago.

She went in quite happily, but mid-morning she asked her teacher when could she go home. On hearing that it would be after lunch, she said to the teacher, “Can I have my lunch now?”
