Madam, – It is rather sad that in order to be seen to make an effort by our debt collectors and now our paymasters, we have to consider a yard sale of our already diminished in value assets, to be sold at the bottom of the market, in order to reach a few monthly instalments on our mortgage (Front page, April 21st).

Foreclosure cannot be far off, with all our possessions sold off and no credit left – are we destined to be the trailer trash of Europe? How the mighty have fallen. – Yours, etc,

Madam, – In his haste to sell the family silver Colm McCarthy has made some glaring omissions. What about the family gold in the National Museum? Surely some rich country without a past would take this off our hands? After all, it’s just sitting there. Then there’s the Phoenix Park – all those city centre acres going to waste.

And hasn’t Prof McCarthy forgot the proverbial? There must be a country somewhere in need of 50,000 grannies? – Yours, etc,
