Jerome A. McCarthy (same date) is also right when he says that "with Keane in the team we have a chance of making the World Cup".

The trouble is, the same applied at Saipan. Had Keane not had to be sent home, Ireland had a good chance of success. Keane knew this. He should have stayed and played and given it his best, and, who knows, we might have had a great victory with his help. Instead, there was the foul-mouthed attack on the manager which left McCarthy with no choice but to send him home.

Remembering the disappointment of Saipan, I am disgusted to think he is now going to be brought back again. However, good a player he may be, there are others on the team who have blossomed since his departure. - Yours, etc.,
