Madam, - Emmet Oliver's piece, "Mugged by the Press", in Wednesday's edition refers to Ireland on Sunday's recent report about Martin Cullen's partner, a civil servant in the OPW.

Mr Oliver says Government sources argue the story has no public interest and states as fact: "Contrary to a report in Ireland on Sunday, the woman never had a role in approving the Minister's expenses." However, Mr Cullen's OPW expenses sheet - given to Ireland on Sunday under Freedom of Information and which we reproduced in the paper - names the woman as his "line manager" and clearly shows her signature next to the word "approved".

Is this an example of the sort of careless-with-the-facts journalism we have been reading so much about in recent days? - Yours, etc.,
