Sir, – Am I the only one to notice the flaw in your paper’s analysis (Weekend Edition, April 21st 22nd) of the Irish Times/Ipsos MRBI Poll, insofar as it relates to a property tax?

The conclusion reached on the Front page and repeated on page 7 is, in substance, that a substantial majority of voters oppose the introduction of a property tax as an alternative to income-tax increases. I assume that the question posed in the survey was that included in the box (page 7) namely “Is the Government right to raise revenue through the household tax, which is likely to be replaced by a property tax, rather than through income tax?” If so, answers to that question do not permit any conclusion to be reached on voters’ preferences as between property and income taxes. – Yours, etc,
