Sir, - Sister Stanislaus Kennedy makes some excellent and challenging comments regarding immigrants to Ireland and our attitudes towards them (Opinion, August 13th).
I would just like to correct a small point in her article. She says it is disgraceful that an unmarried parent with one child has a disposable income of £116 per week, referring, I presume to the amount of the One-Parent Family Payment. Oh, that it were such a sum!
A one-parent family with one child now receives £85.20 per week.
I couldn't agree more with Sr Stanislaus that we have not yet come to realise that wealth carries a moral responsibility to share and that sharing is something we have to learn about. - Yours, etc.,
