No record of bank guarantee

Sir, – So, the Taoiseach found no records in his department of the bank guarantee in September 2008 (Home News, June 13th). Likewise Paddy McEntee SC was unable in his long report to the Oireachtas in 2007 to find key documents in the investigation of the bombings of May 17th, 1974.

However, Ministers Deenihan and Howlin in tandem have a solution to our problems. By taking the National Archives entirely out of the public service, we can bring to an end the pursuit of old-fashioned concepts such as accountability for public records, which seem to be out of place in this State. – Yours, etc,
