No minister for older people

Madam, – I refer to the decision of the incoming government not to appoint a minister for older people

Madam, – I refer to the decision of the incoming government not to appoint a minister for older people. It strikes me as bizarre that the Government would choose to ignore this ever-expanding group of the population, especially when you consider that people over 65 represented 17 per cent of the electorate in our recent general election.

The numbers of older people in our society are projected to grow dramatically in the coming 15 years and therefore it defies logic that the Government would scrap a previously existing ministry for older people when the growth in their numbers would suggest just the opposite course of action. – Yours, etc,

Dr JONATHON ROTH,

Clancys Strand, Limerick.
