Sir, The republican paramilitaries will never give up arms to the British, and the loyalist paramilitaries will never surrender arms to the Republic, but there are those to whom I feel these arms can be truly "surrendered". These are the people on both sides who, though wronged, have been willing to forgive. Who, through loss and pain and grief, have continued to show love to the best of their ability. To them, I believe, a moral right belongs of the surrender of all these weapons.
Public acknowledgement and confession of wrongs can also help to bring healing to the community, in the same way as expressions of forgiveness. Holding hatred also is wrong, and needs to be turned away from. Yours, etc.,
