Sir, - I wish to express my dismay and disappointment that Dublin Corporation plans to spend enormous sums of money to construct a steel spike in O'Connell Street. The city has no need for any such useless ornaments. It would be better to use this money to house the ordinary people of Dublin and to take at least some of the homeless off our streets. This construction is not being undertaken in a democratic manner. Citizens of the city have not been asked if they are in favour of this undertaking. Let's stop this waste before it happens! - Yours, etc., Michael Cumiskey,
St Augustine Street,
Dublin 8.
