Sir, - Having received my lovely notification card I called to collect my elaborate millennium candle in its beautiful box with its very well printed scroll. I considered it all looked expensive. I believe I am also to have a tree planted in my name and that I will be notified as to its location.

I will return my candle to Mr Seamus Brennan and ask him not to plant a tree in my name. This I can do myself. I can also buy a candle. Instead, would he give one homeless person a hot meal and a warm bed for one night, or more? In fact, I can do without the lights over the bridges if it would give another hot meal and warm bed to a homeless person. In view of the fact that a man who had died from hypothermia was found in a Dun Laoghaire park the other day, I think my candle, tree and lights a very small sacrifice indeed. - Yours, etc., Eileen Francis,
