Maj MacBride’s execution

A chara, – Lorna Siggins writes of Maude Gonne's letters about Máire Ní Cillín (An Irishwoman's Diary, May 2nd).

Ní Cillín also writes of Maj John MacBride’s execution, the anniversary of which occurs today: “His was the loneliest death of all and there was contempt and rage for British hypocrisy on that May 6th when we heard of his execution. He was shot mainly – or entirely- for his fight in South Africa 16 years previously. But still there was pride that he stood in his proper place with the young leaders”.
