Liverpool’s mayors never walk alone

Sir, – Noel Dempsey, making the case for an elected mayor for Dublin, should look to Liverpool (Opinion & Analysis, November 16th).

The song goes “If you want a cathedral we have one to spare” could be applied to our mayors, where we have two to spare. We have a mayor, a lord mayor and a Liverpool regional mayor, with two of the posts being elected and the other ceremonial, but with all the bureaucratic trappings attaching to each.
