Madam, - The Government has dug itself into a deep legal hole over Carrickmines Castle. It now appears that altering the route might be the quickest way to complete the motorway. In the past it has been said that delays inherent in planning prevent such a course but, as has been pointed out in these pages before, other parts of the M50 have been modified through the planning process.
The Government is responsible for both delivering infrastructure and protecting heritage. It should get on with it. - Yours, etc.,
