John Kavanagh

Sir, - Now a senior citizen, I have been an ardent and avid theatregoer all my life and rarely miss a performance. Can no director or playwright find or create a role for John Kavanagh that does justice to his considerable talents? His current role, that of John Plunkett in Dublin Carol, is yet another mawkish, drunken Dubliner role heavily laden with the infamous "f" word.

He plays these roles as no one else can and his acting is a joy to watch, but surely he merits something better. Incidentally, even his wonderful acting failed to banish the boredom of this play. - Yours, etc.,
