Madam, – Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern has said that for gardaí to contemplate strike, is an “afront to democracy”. I would put it to the Minister that it is an affront to democracy to pour billions of taxpayers’ money into bankrupt banks, while taking money from the poorest people in our democracy. It is an affront to democracy to prop up developers who creamed billions of euros from working-class people for property which is now worth less than half of what they paid for it. It is an afront to democracy to hold a second referendum on Lisbon when you don’t like the result of the first vote.

I support the gardaí and indeed all working class people, whether in the public or private sector, to take whatever action they feel necessary to let the Minister and his party know that their policies are an affront to our democracy. – Yours, etc,
