Sir - While I welcome the support the EU and Ireland have given to the victims of the floods in Mozambique, more is needed to be done immediately to help the people still stranded on trees and rooftops in the country.
The EU should offer to pay the fuel bills of the helicopter rescue mission in Mozambique. If sufficient helicopters cannot be sourced in Africa for the rescue operation, extra ones should be flown in from the developed nations. With reports that another cyclone could strike Mozambique in the next few days a contingency plan must immediately be put in place to co-ordinate measures to prevent further massive loss of life in Africa. Europe has a moral responsibility to help the people of Mozambique; we must act now, before it's too late - Yours, etc.,
Dana Rosemary Scallon MEP, Eglinton Street, Galway.
