Sir, – I refer to the interesting Irishwoman's Diary by Lara Marlowe ("Wilde about Paris", June 18th).
She refers to Sarah Bernhardt as “the great French actor”. Bernhardt was nothing of the sort; she was quite obviously female. Politically correct, gender neutral language was not in use in those days.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it. – Yours, etc,
