Sir, - How encouraging and heart-warming it is to know that there are journalists writing for The Irish Times of the calibre of Kevin Myers, a man who is not afraid to take a stand against the present trend in Ireland to condemn all or anything concerning the Catholic Church, the clergy and religious, abetted for the most part by the self-righteous, scandal-mongering tabloids.

Kevin Myers has done well to remind us all that we are products of our own making: "The Catholic Church was not an imposed yet assimilated hierarchy from beyond . . . its disorders, its failings were well and truly authentically Irish."

We take this opportunity to thank him for his courage and honesty in condemning injustices. The Irish press would profit by having more journalists like him. - Yours, etc.,
