Sir, - We would like to express our support for the Labour Party's response to the proposed constitutional amendment on abortion. As Irish women based in London, we have witnessed first hand the plight of many women and girls over the years, forced to undertake a difficult and expensive journey to Britain because of the unavailability of abortion services in Ireland.
As the X and C cases showed, it is the most vulnerable members of Irish society who suffer most when girls and women in distress are faced with having to find the means to travel abroad. We hope that people in Ireland will recognise that this proposal will not help their efforts to respond to crisis pregnancy with compassion, and will vote accordingly. - Yours, etc.,
Teresa Dunne, Irish Women's Abortion Support Group, Ann Rossiter, Mary Sexton, Lisa Smyth, Irish Abortion Solidarity Campaign, Swansea, Wales.
